Financial assistance for Mesothelioma Victims

Mesothelioma Lawyers

In addition to coping with a serious illness, Mesothelioma victims and their families must deal with the financial reality of medical bills and other expenses. We encourage our Mesothelioma clients to concentrate on their health and their families while we assist them in obtaining financial compensation.

We handle all Mesothelioma cases on a contingency fee basis. This means that our fee will be a percentage of the recovery we obtain for you. We will cover the up front costs of investigating your case. We will pay doctors to write reports and cover all out-of-pocket costs related to your case. Those costs will be taken from your recovery at the time of settlement. In the unlikely event of no recovery, you will have no direct liability for these costs.

For many clients, we are able to obtain quick settlements from at least some of the companies that exposed them to asbestos. Other defendants do not settle until the case is at the trial stage.

While your legal case is in process, we can help you and your family investigate other sources of financial assistance. If your exposure to asbestos exposure was job-related, we will work with lawyers who can help you recover medical expenses and lost wages from sources such as workers’ compensation, the Longshoreman and Harbor Workers’ Act, the Jones Act, and Social Security disability. If your exposure to asbestos was not job-related, we can assist you with obtaining assistance from Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income.

Pericardial Mesothelioma

The rarest form of Mesothelioma develops in the lining of the heart or pericardium. This type of Mesothelioma cancer is known as pericardial Mesothelioma.

Pericardial mesothelioma is believed to be caused by exposure to asbestos, a mineral commonly used in fire retardant and insulating materials. Since this form of mesothelioma cancer is rare, however, the links between asbestos exposure and the disease are not as strong as with the other forms of mesothelioma cancer.

A diagnosis of malignant pericardial mesothelioma is very serious. Ninty-five percent of malignant pericardial mesothelioma cases are fatal within two years.

Our attorneys represent pericardial mesothelioma victims, as well as spouses, sons, and daughters of people who have died from this rare form of occupational cancer. Our attorneys have obtained hundreds of millions of dollars in settlements and jury awards for our clients.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with malignant pericardial mesothelioma, please contact our lawyers as soon as possible. We will arrange to fly to your home anywhere in the United States within a few days. In most cases, you will not have to travel or even appear in court. We will thoroughly investigate your case and take video depositions. You will not have to pay any attorneys’ fees unless we obtain a financial settlement.

Pleural Mesothelioma Facts

Nearly three-quarters of mesothelioma tumors develop in the lining of the lungs, which is known as the "pleura." Consequently, this type of mesothelioma cancer is known as pleural mesothelioma.

The only known cause of pleural mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos fibers, which are inhaled into the lungs and become lodged there. From the lung, asbestos fibers are thought to move to the pleura in a few different ways: first, by translocution (in which the fibers actually move through lung tissue to the outside of the lung and are picked up buy the pleura); second, by clearance through the lymphatic system, and third, through the blood stream.

Usually it takes at least 20 years from the time a person is exposed to asbestos until they develop mesothelioma. This is called the latency period. Sometimes the disease does not occur for 40, 50 or even 60 years after the person is exposed to asbestos. This explains the fact that the vast majority of persons diagnosed with mesothelioma are seniors. Rarely, the disease can occur in people in their 30's and 40's.

The prognosis for people with pleural mesothelioma is not good. Most malignant pleural mesothelioma cases are fatal within two years. However some people do much better, especially when taking advantage of new chemotherapy and surgical treatments that have become available in recent years. The surgical options include a pleurectomy or pleural decortication, which involves essentially peeling the tumor from the chest lining and lung. Another surgical option is an extrapleural pneumonectomy, which involves removal of one lung and associated pleural tissue. Both of these treatments are usually followed by radiation therapy. The preferred chemotherapy regimen for mesothelioma involves treatment with Alimta and Cisplatin.

Our attorneys represent pleural mesothelioma victims, as well as spouses, sons, and daughters of people who have died from this rare form of occupational cancer. Our attorneys have obtained hundreds of millions of dollars in settlements and jury awards for our clients.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with malignant pleural mesothelioma, please contact our lawyers. We will arrange to fly to your home anywhere in the United States within a few days. In most cases, you will not have to travel or even appear in court. We will thoroughly investigate your case and take video depositions. You will not have to pay any attorneys’ fees unless we obtain a financial settlement.

Comprehensive Cancer Centers

Comprehensive Cancer Centers have been designated as such by the national Cancer Institute. They are required to have basic laboratory research in several fields; to be able to transfer research findings into clinical practice; to conduct clinical studies and trial; to research cancer prevention and control; to offer information about cancer to patients, the public, and health care professionals; and to provide community service related to cancer control. At any given time, most if not all comprehensive cancer centers are working on or facilitate research or clinical trials related to mesothelioma treatment. Many physicians, doctors, oncologists and specialists working in or affiliated with these treatment centers specialize in or participate in work related to mesothelioma.

American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, the ACS has state divisions and more than 3,400 local offices. Whether you or a loved one has been affected by mesothelioma or any other type of cancer, ACS can be an invaluable aid in navigating the otherwise overwhelming pathway through this difficult experience.
